Exceptional Service at the Shangri La Valley Wing Singapore

A weekend getaway to Singapore from Bangkok is always on the cards. Flights are as cheap as you want to look (think Jetstar, Air Asia, Thai Lion Air) and have great arrival/departure times as well. This time round we got to stay at the Shangri La Hotel, but not just that, we stayed in the prestigious Valley Wing of the establishment. I have to agree with their wording that “the Valley Wing epitomises the very best of luxury accommodation”. From the moment you step out of the cab, all worries disappear as the staff have undivided attention on you. The lobby had the signature Shangri-La scent that puts you at ease immediately. Check-in was done at our own pace – with a glass of champagne in hand, mind you. The room was spacious, bed was a deep sleeper’s dream, bathroom was filled with L’Occitane products and the minibar was stocked with complimentary goodness. And my favourite bit, was there is a His and Hers sink – 🙂

Lobby of the Valley Wing in Shangri-La Singapore

The lobby was always buzzing as there was always a butler around servicing guests with free flow champagne/wines and beers. Canapés and high-tea at certain times as well. Goodbye complimentary water, hello Perrier/Evian!

Nothing compares to the impeccable service that the hotel staff provide while you are there. They address you by your name (first and last at times) and even go as far as remembering your food and drink preferences throughout the whole stay. Our choice of tea was already ingrained in the butler’s mind by the second day and appeared without us mentioning it. The freshest of fruits and tastiest of cheese were out on display on the mini breakfast spread. I have never stayed in a place with quite this attention to detail. Not once did the housekeeper manage to cross our paths or bother us in anyway, yet they managed to whisk in while we were away for 10 mins and completely make up the room. Incredible.
Glass of champagne and nuts

You simply can not walk past the gorgeous lobby without stopping for a quick glass of champagne or wine! The butlers and waitresses are simply marvellous at their jobs.
Certain times also has canapés available as well as high tea time. We managed to miss these, but we’re aren’t complaining after our third glass of Sauvignon Blanc!

The gym was also out of this world and as I mentioned on my Instagram, it’s actually better than most commercial gyms here in Bangkok! Sad but true. Unfortunately I didn’t snap any pictures as I was in there around midnight (it’s open 24 hours!) and didn’t bring my trusty dSLR. Whatever you need, they’ll have it: Power rack, cable cross, Jacob’s ladder, stretching machines. I was impressed!
Xmas trees and elevators in Shangri-La

Did I mention their attention to detail yet?! Christmas trees were EVERYWHERE. I simply couldn’t count how many of them there were scattered throughout the hotel. Even the carpet in the elevator changes ‘magically’ every day to reflect what day it is. DETAILS people!

Food on offer at The Line Buffet

The Line Buffet was all you could ask for. I saw many locals enjoy the scrumptious fresh food on offer. The lamb + beef jus and dijon was to die for! I’ll admit it, went back for seconds.
